Most Influential Books Meme

Most influential books. It takes some thinking. What does that mean? It's tricky. What's hard for me is I cannot go run over to my bookshelves right now and take a looky loo. My books are thousands of miles away in boxes in our basement :( But it's fun to stop and think about books, so here goes.....

Most Influential Adult Books (in no particular order)
1. The Yellow Wallpaper (and Herland) by Charlotte Perkins Gilman (cheating, I know)
2. The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger
3. The Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri
4. The Stranger by Albert Camus
5. The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath

Most Influential Children's Books
1. Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown
2. The Giver by Lois Lowry
3. Olivia by Ian Falconer
4. the Ramona books by Beverly Cleary
5. The Baby Goes Beep by Rebecca O'Connell

There are so many books to read. I just picked up an Amy Tan book I have wanted to read at the library here. Admittedly, I am not a fast reader especially now that Eleanor has arrived on the scene and besides, I like to live with a book for awhile.

You are "tagged" if you are reading this! :)

I adored the Ramona books as a child. They were my first chapter books. ;-)

For some reason, the words and pictures from "Go Dog, Go" had a profound influence on me as a child. Especially the spread where all the dogs are sleeping in the big big big bed, except for 1, whose eyes were wide open. And there was moonlight on the blankie...
