A Very Historic Day

If you saw my 100, I said I purposely don't blog about politics. True, but I am making an exception as this is an historic time in American Politics with the election of Barack Obama. What a dream realized by so many especially in the black community.

We were at one of our expat playgroups this morning. I'm usually the only American in the mix and today was not an exception. My nationality never really comes up--except today so many people made comments to me about Obama and the election. They spoke of hope and progress. I was amazed they seemed so excited and cared so much. A couple people even amazingly remembered I'm from Ohio and commented on what a battle ground state it is. Internally, I was embarrassed I didn't know more about the politics of their countries for the most part.

Michael brought home a few Gulf papers. The headline on this second paper reads--"America Votes for Change: the first Black President in the White House." He commented that the news here was so positive. It was like a complete switch suddenly. That's good. I don't think the importance of international relations can be stressed enough, especially in the Middle East.

I didn't grow up with the greatest knowledge of the mapping of the world. Even now, I know I should be better schooled in this. I want Eleanor to grow up a child of the world. Being abroad now in her young years is a good start and I am happy for this.
