Letter Writers Alliance
I'm surprised that I haven't come across the Letter Writers Alliance or some such group before today. I have a great love of writing and receiving letters and mail, so joining this group is right up my alley. I'm excited and can't wait to get involved, write more letters and even get a pen pal. ha! I haven't had a pen pal since high school french class.
Do you like to write and receive letters?
Thanks, Sarah, for tweeting about this!

This is awesome. I saw your tweet about it, and was planning to look into it. I might join as well. Sadly, I have only one friend who shares a love of letters with me, so she's my only current pen pal. There's just nothing like opening up your actual physical mailbox and finding an actual physical letter!
Gee, Cheryl, maybe you and I should have been pen pals all this time you've been gone!
Oh, I do love writing letters. I have quite the collection of stationery, postcards, note cards, and the like. LWA looks very much up my alley.
Your post is reminding me of some letters I really treasure from my childhood. One summer when my dad stayed in Columbus and my mom and brother and I stayed out in Tacoma, WA for 2 months my dad wrote us often. I still have his letters and love re-reading them. They are written on his work stationary and he just talks about the neighbors and the dog...such simple things, but so special, especially now.
Every week I say to myself that this is the week I will make a habit of taking one day to write "snail mail" -my mother had the most impressive handwriting and never sent anything onto you in the mail without a least a one page note attached noting a few things about home and events. I still have some of those letters and they are precious.
I used to love writing and receiving letters :) Most of mine were in my teens to and from my best friend in California...and always with the silliest "To" line, like, "Her Majesty Supreme" or "The Superior Being of Beauty and Grace". Is it pathetic that we still address each other as such when sending cards and packages? :)
Letter writing is a lost art. Kudos to you for keeping it alive!
It great reading these comments. It's funny how keeping up correspondences stresses some out, as I was emailing about with a friend recently. I think that's why just keeping up with cards, little notes, thank you's are nice. It's just as thoughtful and less intimidating than letters.
When I was in college, my professor father would write me twice a year. (Once per semester)
These letters were in the form of a memo or outline. For instance:
To:Katherine
From: Dad
Subject:News from home
Date: XXXX
We are all well here
1.Nancy lost a tooth
2. Mom is busy with Julie's brownie troop
We miss you
1. Your sister wants to watch cartoons with you.
2. It is too quiet w/o your humming
Hope all is well with you.
Take Care.
Love,
Dad
Although this seems odd, it was very endearing.
